Biography

Clint Strydom (b. 1973, Johannesburg) is a South African fine art photographer, lens-based artist and visual storyteller whose bold, unmistakable language fuses street photography, fine art and documentary.

Raised in KwaZulu-Natal, Clint's early connection to the ocean, natural landscapes and the slower rhythms of coastal life instilled in him a sensitivity to light, atmosphere and movement that continues to anchor his practice today — whether he is shooting the raw vibrancy of inner-city Johannesburg, or tracking the contradictions of life in New York, Paris, Venice, Chicago, Miami or San Francisco.

His ongoing Big City Life series immerses the viewer in a distinctive layering process: a single image, he believes, is not always enough to contain the complexity of urban life. Through richly textured, composite compositions, architecture, movement, human presence and atmosphere collide in an almost cinematic portrait of each city's soul.

His most recent body of work, Ain't That America, journeys across the United States — from the classic Americana of Chicago diners and Miami beach to the restless energy of Times Square — exploring identity, nostalgia, and the tension between movement and stillness in contemporary urban life. Works from the series are available through The Melrose Gallery on Artsy.

Clint's practice has earned him global recognition and high-profile collaborations with Aston Martin International, FIFA, the Mexican Football Hall of Fame and Constitution Hill. His work has been featured in the New York Times and Sunday Times, and he has exhibited at Expo Chicago, 1-54 New York, SCOPE Miami, the Cape Town International Art Fair and San Francisco Art Fair — as well as the inaugural AOCA opening at Minnesota Street Project.
